In the first mini "wikisode,” I introduce you to a group of 80s whistleblowers called The Strecker Group, and their highly controversial research which culminated in The Strecker Memorandum.
Released on video in 1988, The Strecker Memorandum was an independent news documentary video produced by The Strecker Group, an action committee formed by Dr. Robert Strecker, M.D., PhD, and his brother, attorney Theodore Strecker.
Despite efforts to suppress these claims, the fact remains to this date the Strecker unearthed documents in the historical record & scientific literature that revealed a 1970s bioweapons research program being run under the guise of "cancer virus research." The viruses in question were retroviruses, of which HIV is now the most famous.
According to their own memoranda, the WHO launched a research program. The WHO’s plan, as outlined in the Strecker Memorandum, describes something that sounds uncomfortably similar to the AIDS virus which would subsequently unfold: extensive research into cancer-causing particles, particularly those which selectively target the immune system, as well as those an extended period of viral latency (the period of time between contracting a virus and it developing into disease).
By the end of the decade, a slow burning, T-cell destroying virus that the WHO predicted had arrived.
Is it really that big of a leap to consider there may be a connection?
This episode shines a little light on the shadowy operations carried out across a honeycomb network of military research. Because this the heart of the The Strecker Memorandum: allegations about experimental research carried out by post-war international scientific brotherhood–and the public health crisis which subsequently transpired.
The Strecker Group's publications make an urgent and impassioned plea to alert the public. Those calls fell on deaf ears in the late 80s when Strecker emerged, and the establishment worked swiftly to ensure his reach was limited and combatted with categorical denials from CDC PR flunkies.
But all these years later, does The Strecker Memorandum hold up?
Join me for this deep dive into a fascinating, lost artifact of the original AIDS dissident era.

Nixon Signs National Cancer Attack Act of 1971
Interesting to note:
Nixon says he “not going to go into the details” of the cancer cure program. This is likely a concession that the program is in fact a top secret military research program (remember, the “Special” in Special Cancer Virus program is meant to indicate its classified level status).
